National Democratic Front of the Philippines – Southern Mindanao

News Release28 February 2006

Arroyo Public Enemy No. 1

“Mrs. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo is definitely running amok,” Rubi del Mundo, National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) – Southern Mindanao spokesperson said, lambasting the reactionary regime’s barefaced attacks on the Filipinos’ fundamental rights.

Del Mundo pointed out that the series of warrantless arrests against militant party-list representatives and known critics of the illegitimate regime; the inclusion of NDFP Chief Political Consultant Jose Ma. Sison and NDFP Negotiating Panel Chairperson Luis Jalandoni in list of those to be falsely charged; the frontal attacks on press freedom and the systematic killings of leaders and members of progressive organizations, among others, “smacks of large-scale state-terrorism and fascism.”

There is no doubt that Arroyo’s anti-people, anti-democratic and anti-national stance has extremely isolated her from the people. In an undisguised attempt to save her tottering government, Arroyo points an accusing finger at progressive organizations, opposition groups and the revolutionary movement, branding them as part of a “conspiracy” with anti-Arroyo officer and units of the Armed Forces of the Philippines/Philippine National Police. With such, Arroyo and her fascist tools have found a lame, yet, obstinate excuse to further her dictatorship and massive violations of the people’s democratic rights.

According to Del Mundo, “Arroyo’s recent actions have further galvanized the resolve of the people to overthrow her regime which is the nation’s No. 1 enemy.” With Arroyo’s weak clout, she can never stop the tide of nationwide mass protests. The NDFP’s regional spokesperson added that Arroyo’s latest attacks against civil liberties will only increase the ranks of the broad anti-Arroyo movement. It will also boost the revolutionary resistance as more and more people understand the role of the armed struggle against the rotten regime and the entire reactionary ruling system.

There is no need to conspire because with a tyrant in Malacañang, working for its downfall is both a sovereign right and a patriotic duty of every Filipino. NDF-Southern Mindanao maintains that in order to overthrow Arroyo’s dictatorship, the people must act in a decisive confrontation against her. And this can only be done when such sovereign right and patriotic duty are collectively exercised.
